AI for PHP developers: the web you build is getting a model behind it

PHP remains the language of a large part of the web: shops, content platforms, internal applications, Laravel and Symfony APIs. All of these are now getting assistants over content, semantic search, automatic classification and integrations with agents. The ecosystem has answered, with Symfony AI and with official PHP SDKs for the Claude API and for the Model Context Protocol, but the real requirement is a different one: understanding how a model behaves in production and integrating it without compromising the security of the application.

Why you are relevant and where the risk is

Your advantage

A PHP developer is usually the one closest to the real data and flows of a business: products, orders, customers, content. That is a good position for RAG over your own content, for automations with agents and for MCP tools exposed to assistants. What most PHP teams lack is not libraries but the mental model: non-determinism, cost per token, evaluation, prompt injection.

Where the risk is

The pressure comes from two directions. Prompt-to-app tools generate complete web applications, on other stacks, for clients who used to order a PHP site. And coding agents rewrite whole modules in minutes. The answer is not to compete with them, but to be the one who uses them on real codebases and who builds what they cannot: the safe integration of AI into existing systems.

What changes in your work with PHP

  1. Your application becomes a source of context

Products, articles, tickets and documents become embeddings and retrieval results. Chunking, indexing, permissions and the evaluation of answers are new responsibilities for the PHP backend.

  2. Your APIs become tools for agents

Laravel or Symfony endpoints are exposed as MCP tools or as functions callable by models, with authentication, least-privilege permissions and strict validation of arguments.

  3. Web security gains a new class of attacks

Prompt injection through user-generated content, exfiltration through tools, cost abuse. A PHP developer who already knows XSS and CSRF has a head start, provided they learn these vectors too.

  4. PHP code is written with agents, in the editor or the terminal

Claude Code and Cursor work on Laravel and Symfony projects. The difference is made by context, permissions and verification in CI.

Each of these changes has at least one course in the track below. See the track

A Certificate of Completion for every course in the PHP track

When you have gone through all the lessons of a course and have an average of at least 70% on its quizzes, you issue from your account, after confirming the conditions, a Certificate of Completion with a unique number and a public verification link. It is not issued automatically and it comes at no extra cost, with a plan or with single-course access.

  • Verifiable by anyone. Every certificate has a QR code and a public verification page, with its unique code. A recruiter checks it without an account.
  • With figures, not just a name. The percentage of lessons completed, the average quiz score and the study time are written on the document.
  • Three tiers, by quiz average: Pass (70–79%), Merit (80–89%) and Distinction (90% and above), shown on the document.
  • Your name, your choice. You decide whether your name appears on the public verification page, and you can change that choice at any time.
A sample certificate. The real document is a PDF, with a QR code and a public verification link.

The capstone projects in the PHP track

The courses in the track that end with a capstone project. The list comes from the real modules of the courses, not from a brochure.

The AI ecosystem around PHP

What already exists, so that you do not start from zero. The courses in the track teach you what to build with it.

  • Symfony AI A set of Symfony components for model platforms, agents, chat and vector stores, with a bundle that integrates the MCP SDK.
  • The PHP SDK for MCP An official SDK of the protocol, for MCP servers written in PHP.
  • The official Anthropic SDK for PHP A client for the Claude API; for the OpenAI API there are community-maintained PHP libraries.
  • HTTP and server-sent events Model APIs are plain HTTP with SSE streaming; the LLM integration course implements a streaming endpoint with Symfony’s StreamedResponse.
  • pgvector and vector databases Semantic search directly in PostgreSQL or in a dedicated vector database.
  • OpenAI-compatible endpoints Self-hosted models served with Ollama or vLLM are called from PHP exactly like cloud APIs.

What you will be able to do at the end of the PHP track

  1. Add a RAG assistant over the content of a Laravel or Symfony application, with permissions and evaluation
  2. Expose existing APIs as MCP tools or as functions callable by models, with strict validation and least-privilege permissions
  3. Stream model answers from a PHP endpoint, with retries, cost under control and compliant logging
  4. Use Claude Code and Cursor on large PHP codebases, with verification in CI
  5. Defend the application against prompt injection and tool abuse, as an extension of web security

These are the skills you practise in the courses of the track; results depend on the time you invest and on your previous experience.

Questions about AI for PHP

Do the courses have examples in PHP?

A few. The introduction uses a Symfony and PHP application in its module on AI tools for developers, the LLM integration course implements a streaming endpoint with Symfony next to the FastAPI and Express versions, and the Cursor course writes its rules for a Symfony backend. Everything else is mostly in Python, and the MCP course also has a module in TypeScript. Model APIs are HTTP with server-sent events, which a PHP developer consumes without difficulty.

I work on WordPress or on an online shop. Does it make sense?

Yes. Assistants over content, semantic search, product classification and automations with agents are common requirements on these platforms. The RAG, integration and security courses apply directly, although none of them is written specifically for WordPress or for a shop platform.

Are prompt-to-app tools taking my clients?

They take the prototype part. The vibe coding course shows what they generate and where they fall short: security, sensitive data, integration with existing systems, production. The value of a PHP developer moves towards the safe integration of AI into real applications and towards using coding agents on large codebases.

Which plan opens these courses?

All the courses recommended here are IT courses and open with the IT Pro plan, which includes every IT course in the catalog. It is billed monthly, and you can stop the renewal anytime from your account. There is also individual, monthly access to a single course. Every course has a free preview of its first lesson, readable without an account.
